Today’s reading: 2 Kings 21:1-9; 2 Chronicles 33:1-9
After spending the last week or so examining and learning from the godly king, Hezekiah, today we are introduced to the worst king of Judah–Hezekiah’s son Manasseh. Despite being brought up in a godly environment, Manasseh chose to go down a different path than his father. He was absolutely intentional about turning away from God. It’s as if he was devoted to following after anything but God, and as a result he “led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem astray, to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the people of Israel” (2 Chronicles 33:9). It’s a heartbreaking account, but as we’ll see tomorrow, even the most evil people can be reached by God.
What does Manasseh reveal about our sinful natures and free will? What does this account show us about the pull and influence of the sinful world around us? Tami
