Today’s reading: John 14:12-31
As part of Jesus’s talk with the disciples preparing them about His impending death and departure from earth, He spends a portion of His time caringly instructing them about believing in, following after and loving Him.
“‘Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father'” (vs. 12).
“‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments'” (vs. 15).
“‘Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him'” (vs. 21).
“‘If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him'” (vs. 23).
Is it your aim to follow Jesus by living out His example in your daily life? In a typical week, how much thought do you give to following the commandments in God’s Word and modeling Jesus to those you interact with and encounter? What’s one example of you demonstrating a work done by Jesus in the last week or so (physically helping someone in need, offering encouraging and caring words, providing financial support or food where needed, praying with and for other people, telling someone about God’s forgiveness and salvation, etc.)?
