Today’s reading: John 14:1-14
Even though Jesus has told the disciples on several occasions what must happen to Him (His death and resurrection–see Mark 8:31-32; 9:30-32; 10:32-34), they don’t fully understand what He’s been telling and teaching them. So after Judas exits the last supper, Jesus continues to talk with His closest disciples and friends in order to comfort and prepare them in advance of the events that are going to commence in just a few hours. Jesus knows that they are going to be hit hard with feelings of fear, doubt, anger, uncertainty and grief. Putting the needs of His disciples first, He lovingly reassures them about who He is and why He came to earth.
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him'” (vs. 6-7).
Think of a time when were you in a hard situation and Jesus comforted you through His Word. How can you follow Jesus’s example and offer comfort to others in need? Tami
