Today’s reading: James 4:1-12; Psalm 25:9; Proverbs 3:34
Woven throughout James’s warning against being friends with the world, we see the message that God wants us to be humble and looks favorably on those who are. The choice is ours, and it really is an ongoing one as each day we make hundreds of decisions and choices. We can follow the way of the world and focus on ourselves (“It’s all about me”) or we can submit ourselves to God and follow after Him.
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” (James 4:10)
“Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor.” (Proverbs 3:34)
“He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.” (Psalm 25:9)
In a world that tells us that we, and we alone, are the masters of our own life, how do you maintain a God-focused and humble heart? Describe what humbly serving God looks like in your life (give a specific example). Why is being humble a necessary component of living a Christian life? Tami
