Today’s reading: 1 John 2:7-17
John writes about what our love needs to look like in 1 John 2:7-17. He first addresses how we must be love-filled for other people, an age-old commandment (loving our neighbor as ourselves (Leviticus 19:17-18)) that has now come into the world through Jesus.
Then, Paul’s love focus takes on a negative tone as he issues a strong caution paired with the command to “not love the world or the things in the world” (vs. 15-17) because they are not from God and contradict His will and ways.
What does “loving your brother” mean for you? In the past month, how have you shown God’s love to the people around you (family, co-workers, friends)? How does taking in God’s Word equip you to both love others and combat the alluring pull of the world? Tami
