Today’s reading: Ephesians 2:8-9
Our salvation is not dependent on us doing good things (“working”) to earn God’s favor. Instead, the Gospel message is all about faith. If we choose to place our faith in Jesus Christ, we will be saved.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (vs. 8-9).
Ephesians 2:8-9 lets us know that nothing we do in our own strength can ever save us. Once we’ve placed our faith in Christ, however, doing good things as we represent God to the world should be a goal and a standard for living.
How would you explain faith versus “works” (doing good things) to someone who doesn’t yet know Christ based on Ephesians 2:8-9? What helps you keep a proper perspective on working for and doing good things for God? Tami
