Today’s reading: 1 Kings 11:9-43
God blesses Solomon and repeatedly instructs and warns him to live with “integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you, and keeping my statutes and my rules…” (1 Kings 9:4), and to not enter into marriage with women from other nations (1 Kings 11:2). However, Solomon chose to go his own way in his later years. This self-centered thinking and the actions that followed led him astray to the point that he completely turned from God to serve other gods. The consequences of this turning away are dire–not only for Solomon, but for his descendants and the entire nation of Israel.
