Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 3:1-23
Paul turns back to the issue of divisions within the church in 1 Corinthians 3. This time around, however, he goes deeper and expands on this problem by setting out how we are all God’s servants and fellow workers, and how we’re designed to function in different roles within the Body of Christ. Verses 5-9 were key and conveyed much to me. The example of planting and watering was easy to understand and made a lot of sense since I am an active gardener and also grew up in a farming community. Paul makes it clear that although each of us have different roles, we are all working together for God, and He is the purpose and power behind all that we do.
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth” (vs. 6-7).
