Today’s reading: Psalm 51:1-19
With a humble heart, David cries out to God asking Him for forgiveness. One of the things I like about this psalm is the perspective it provides about sin. I’m also drawn to the example it puts before us of honestly talking with God about our heart and actions. In verse 4 David says, “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight…” This lets us know that whenever we sin, we are first and foremost sinning against and offending God. What a good reminder to help us think more about our actions and hopefully sin less often going forward. Then after confessing and putting forth his sin, David makes this beautiful request of God in verse 10. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Is it your practice to regularly seek God’s forgiveness? Why is this important? What most impacted you from David’s example? Tami
